Senior Connor Hiser honored with the Jerome Bettis Leadership Award
Strong relationships are important for everyone, but especially for young people. Student athletes have a unique opportunity to offer mentoring support to their peers to help them learn and grow -- on and off the field! South Fayette football recognizes the importance of relationships for our students and we're thrilled to announce that our very own Connor Hiser has been honored with the Jerome Bettis Leadership Award, presented by the Pittsburgh Steelers, The Mentoring Partnership, Giant Eagle and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This award recognizes high school football players from around the region who go above and beyond to be a leader in their community and offer support and encouragement to their teammates and peers.
As part of this recognition, Connor Hiser will be honored in an on-field ceremony during an upcoming Steelers home game.

Quote from Dan Rooney,
Steelers Vice President of
Business Development & Strategy
“Football is more than a game – it’s a platform for building leadership and character that extends beyond the playing field. Jerome Bettis embodies what it means to be a leader on and off the field and the Steelers are honored to recognize young football players contributing to their communities with an award in his name. By doing so, we are highlighting the power of highschool football to shape not only better athletes, but better people."
Quote from Jerome Bettis,
Pittsburgh Steelers/ Pro Football
Hall of Fame Running Back
“I give back because of what I was given. As a young athlete, I benefited from mentorship both on and off the field. Throughout my career, I strived to be a positive influence on my teammates and in my community . I firmly believe sports—and athletes in particular—have the power to make a lasting impact on their schools and communities. That’s why I’m excited to have my name connected to this award recognizing the peer leadership of high school athletes in the Pittsburgh area."
Lions open up 2025 with win over Chartiers Valley
Behind OVERPOWERING Offensive and Defensive Front play
The 2025 campaign opened Friday with a short jaunt down Thoms Run Rd for the Battle of the Bridge versus neighboring Chartiers Valley. The Lions displayed a dominating running performance and a disposition for tackles for loss in a 38-15 win.
Stars of the game start up front with the OL. Rushing for 221 yards on 32 attempts equates to the big men up front opening some holes. Leading the way in the rushing category was freshman Aayden Wright who had 6 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown as well as 2 catches for 25 yards - going over the century mark in his first varsity game. His RB counterpart Sr Bo Stover contributed 3 TDs on 7 carries and 59 yards.
Defensively, the Lions started out slow to then shut down a triplet of CV stars. After giving up a first drive TD, the Lions shut out the Colts until late in the fourth. The front seven caused havoc for the CV OL. Led by Sophomore Jacob Bostian who tallied 5 tackles, 2 assists and 4 TFLs. The corners shined with Alex Deanes grabbing the first turnover of the year and Senior Ray Schuler adding a pair of PBUs.
The Lions travel again this week - heading north to Shaler to take on the Titans at 7pm.
